Label TextTobacco Jar Tiffany Studios, New York, late 19th to early 20th century Glass blown into a frame of riveted copper wire, cast bronze base, copper lid Mark metal stamped: TCDCO / TIFFANY STUDIOS/ NEW YORK 21922 and / NEW YORK 1025 Gift of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. 71.2694 (GAT 65.41) Doros #201 This object was merely described as a “TOBACCO JAR, blown glass in wire” by Tiffany Studios in 1906, but its shape was probably derived from an ancient Roman cinerary urn. Louis Comfort Tiffany owned at least two, which are reproduced (at right) from the catalogue of Park-Bernet’s 1946 Tiffany Foundation sale that dispersed the contents of Tiffany’s Laurelton Hall estate.
