DescriptionThis carte de visite is a bust portrait of Speaker of the House James Gillespie Blaine. Blaine has light hair and a dark beard; image has a plain background. Blaine (1830-1893) was Secretary of State under Presidents Garfield and Harrison; entered Congress in 1865 and served in the House until 1876, as Speaker, 1869-1875. He was U.S. Senator, 1876-1881.
