DescriptionPencil drawing; drawing on both sides of paper.Label TextJerome Myers American, 1867–1940 Street Fair, 1905 Pencil drawing with pen and ink on wove paper Using pen and ink, Jerome Myers reworked a pencil drawing to highlight individual faces within a crowded New York street. This sensitive sketch shows the painter’s fascination with working class life and leisure. Along with several other drawings in this room, it is a gift from John Davis Hatch (1907–1996), the director of the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences from 1950 to 1959. Following his retirement, Hatch donated over 100 European and American prints and drawings from his personal collection to the Museum, dramatically expanding the size and quality of this collection.
