Label TextFrank Myers Boggs American, 1855–1926 Untitled (The Thames, London), ca. 1883-87 Oil on canvas The American artist Frank Boggs settled in Paris in 1876 and quickly became known for his atmospheric marine and harbor views. While visiting London in the 1880s, he painted a series of views of the Thames River. Boggs chose a viewpoint in the midst of the river and its bustling traffic, with the iconic Tower of London barely visible in the distance through the fog. Like the Impressionists, Boggs used his art to investigate the fleeting effects of light and weather but employed a more muted range of colors and restrained application of paint. Gift of Walter P.
