In this Pond Lily Table Lamp, nature provides more direct inspiration. The entire structure of the object participates in the plant-based design, from the glass flowers, down the bouquet of stems, to the base of sculpted bronze lily pads. Claude Monet had been painting water lilies since 1889, and in 1893 he added a lily pond to his garden in Giverny. Monet’s paintings may have added to the tremendous popularity of this lamp design in both America and Europe. Chrysler Museum of Art, Gift of Walter P.
