He spoke about the direction of the war in Vietnam, the beginnings of a better quality of life for all people, and the concept for "Resurrection City." Although not realized until after King's death in May 1968, Resurrection City was an encampment on the Washington, D.C. mall as part of the Poor People's Campaign. King opposed the Vietnam War on the grounds that the war took money and resources that could have been spent on the War on Poverty.
