Label TextSUNDERLAND BRIDGE RUMMER Great Britain, probably Sunderland Early 19th Century Blown glass; emgraved. Inscriptions: on the obverse SUNDERLAND BRIDGE on the reverse, the monogram CEW Gift of Kathryn K Porter 87.424 At its completion in 1796, Sunderland Bridge (over the River Wear) was the longest single span iron bridge in the world. The 18th Century engineering marvel was clebrated in glass and ceramics well into the 19th century.Published ReferencesR.
