DescriptionThis Whale Oil Lamp on Toy Plate Foot is made of colorless lead formula glass with blown spherical font on tooled button stem. A pressed base made form toy plate or toy cup plate base like Spillman #552, rough pontil scar, with a metal and cork whale oil burner.

Published ReferencesDeming Jarves letter of June 8, 1827 transcribed in Bishop and Hassell, p. 54, "Toy and Cup Plates are wanted, but have them made light even if you lose a few in making. Light B.S. [button stem] Lamps on Toy and 2d size Cup Plates sell well. Also, beeded chamber and cylinder Lamps. Keep them also light."
