DescriptionDownturned handle (Old English) type. Somewhat pointed broad handle face of loop-shaped outline, turned down at end with plain underside. Shank D-shaped in section. Egg-shaped bowl with slightly raised and rounded single drop on underside. Cypher "WAS" engraved on face of handle for Wright Southgate (1778-1855) of Norfolk and Ann Stith (1782-1863) of Brunswick County, married July 20, 1799.
