DescriptionThis is a Worcester yellow-ground and blue-scale quatrefoil chestnut basket (A), pierced cover (B), and stand (C). The interior of the basket and the center of the stand have a blue-scale ground reserved with a central oval panel painted with either a cluster of yellow-centered rose flowers and green leaves or a color floral cluster within a gilt scalloped edge and surrounded by two "mirror"-shaped cartouches painted with floral garlands and two "vase"-shaped cartouches below triangular panels painted with floral sprigs, all within gilt rococo scrollwork. The exterior of the basket has a pale-yellow ground press-molded with a honeycomb pattern enclosing four rows of green-centered rose florets repeated within the yellow open wickerwork arches of the cover and stand. The cover rim has a gilt-edge blue-scale border. Each piece has brown and yellow twig handles terminating in green stems bearing colorful blossoms and green leaves. There are pseudo-Chinese seal marks in underglaze blue. The stand is married and each piece has the usual chips and losses to the blossoms and leaves of the handle terminals.
