She is looking to the right and stands under pink blossoms at top right and left.Label TextUtagawa Toyokuni Japanese, 1769-1825 Portrait of a Woman under Blossoming Branches Woodblock print on paper Toulouse-Lautrec's work was most impacted by Ukiyo-e prints of beautiful women (bijin-e). The influence of the dramatic curving silhouettes of the women's poses and the bright and colorful patterns of kimonos can be easily made out of his posters. It's not known which Japanese prints he had in his project collection. In any case, he made no effort to exactly copy these sources, but was open about his debt to them. Gift of Dr. James C.
