DescriptionThis is a dye transfer print photograph.Label TextGordon Parks American (b. 1912) The Stranger, 1958 Dye transfer print Museum Purchase 84.269 ~ One of the major living African-American photographers, Gordon Parks began his career working under Roy Stryker at the Farm Security Administration. He was self-taught and received the first Julius Rosenwald Fellowship in 1942. He later worked for LIFE magazine and the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. In addition to his skills as a photographer, Parks is also a writer of novels, a composer, a musician, and a filmmaker. In 1985, Parks was featured in a solo exhibition at the Chrysler Museum. This is one of six of his photographs in the collection.
