DescriptionThis is a glass sculpture of a jazz musician. The figure is wearing blue pants and a pink shirt with blue stripes, and is playing a colorless saxaphone dusted with gold. This type of object was historically termed a "blackamoor" (a European style of decorative art in which a dark-skinned, usually male, human figure is depicted in a stylized and ornate form. Blackamoor art is controversial and is often considered racist).Exhibition History"The Sheri Sandler Collection of 20th-Century Italian Glass," Chrysler Museum of Art, July 14, 1998 - November 7, 1999. “A Two-Way Mirror: Double Consciousness in Contemporary Black Glass Art," Museum of Glass, Tacoma, WA, October 21, 2023 – October 2024.
