Frank 2000.14.5 ~ Danny Lyon grew up in a middle-class section of New York City and began to make photographs at the age of 17. He studied history at the University of Chicago and in 1962 joined the Civil Rights Movement, becoming staff photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Best known for his extensive documentation of the Civil Rights Movement, 31 of those photographs are included in the Chrysler collection.
