In Albany, New York citizen-led groups of the Citizens Military Relief Fund and the Ladies’ Army Relief Fund banded together to mount a fair that raised more than $100,000 for soldiers’ relief causes. Attendants at the fair formed into groups that organized booths and donned costumes—in this case Pennsylvania Shakers—and then competed to raise the most money for the cause. Gift of David L.
