DescriptionThis is a 'Marquis of Granby' Baluster-Form Mug. Printed in black on the front with a bust-length portrait of General John Manners, Marquis of Granby (1721-70) by Robert Hancock from an engraving by Richard Houston after a portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Between on one side Mars holding a spear and seared beside his gorgon shield amidst clouds, and on the reverse the angel of 'Fame' [version 3] blowing a trumpet and holding another amidst clouds.
