DescriptionThis is one of five 18th century French Festival Etchings. It is one of two prints commemorating the celebrations connected with the Dauphin's second marriage in 1747 and the birth of his own son in 1751. This print is the 2nd state with inscriptions.

The scene is the garden at Versailles, decorated with an extraordinary stretch of festival architecture in classical Roman style. Fashioned of wood, cardboard and plaster, this very ephemeral architectural complex served as the backdrop for a grand illumination and fireworks display on the night of December 30.
