DescriptionThis is a four-section banquet table constructed of mahogany, with secondary woods including maple, white pine, and eastern red cedar or juniper. Its two half-round end sections are supported by three slender legs each, while the two rectangular central sections rest on eight legs each—a core group of four stationary legs, with four other swing legs on hinged arms that can be extended to support leaves on either side. All four sections of the table are 28 1/2 in. tall and 54 in. wide. The two half-round end sections are each 26 1/4 in. long, while the middle sections vary in length: one measures 69 1/4 in. long and the other has been extended to measure 73 in. long. The tops of all four sections are very large single boards of solid mahogany.Label TextBanquet Table in Four Parts, ca. 1780s–90s American (possibly Norfolk, VA) Mahogany, with maple, white pine, eastern red cedar or juniper, and iron hinges Gift of Barton Myers 28 1/2 × 54 × 196 in. overall 2014.7ProvenancePresumably acquired by Moses Myers, Norfolk, VA (possibly mentioned in 1820 family inventory).
