Woods came to Ferguson to see how he could help sow seeds of love and peace during a time of division.Label TextMatt Eich American, born 1986 Preacher, Ferguson, Missouri, 2014 Archival pigment print (photograph) The contrast of pink and green emphasizes this man’s clashing emotions. The image depicts Yogi Woods, the pastor of Lincoln Street Church of Christ in Jackson, Tennessee. Woods traveled to Ferguson, Missouri, in hopes of bringing people together during the demonstrations that followed the killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager, by police officer Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014. Photographer Matt Eich took this picture while covering the events in Ferguson for The New York Times. Beyond typical photojournalism, however, this deeply affecting portrait evokes both tragedy and hope. Gift of the artist, in memory of Amy L.
