DescriptionMother and daughter posed before a painted scenic backdrop. The woman wears a dark dress, while the girl’s print dress is tinted red. The mother holds an opened book in her lap and the child points to a passage. A slip of paper pinned to the velvet cushion identifies the subjects as, “Papa’s mother – Jane Watkins Hillyer and little daughter Mary.” Full leather case, Single Grape Cluster design with Whitehurst’s spread eagle motif embossed on the velvet cushion.
