DescriptionA hollow, blown sphere with swirling, iridescent rainbow hues scattered across the matrix like a starburst. The bottom has been cold-worked with a flat circular spot for stability. This work was made starting out with a flat disc of dichroic glass that had been fused with several layers of opaque black glass; this disc was heated, free-blown, and shaped with the addition of overlaid gathers of clear glass to increase size and thickness of the sculpture.ProvenanceAndrew Lang | Chrysler Museum of ArtPublished ReferencesA photo of Big Bang +1 appears in the March/April 2020 issue of Glass Art Magazine (pp.36-37), in a spread showcasing the 2019 Dichroic by Design Contest, a contest sponsored by Coatings By Sandberg to demonstrate the unique designs that can be created using dichroic glass; Big Bang +1 won first prize in this contest.
