DescriptionWide shallow bowl with scalloped rim. Stem is a reclined dragon, holding the bowl with its claws. Blown foot. Colorless glass ground with chips of blue glass that stand proud of surface (granzioli). Stem is formed as a twisted vine, of colorless and green glass. The dragon's body reclines with its wings down and tail wrapping around the vine stem; its back feet prop us the bowl; its body has horizontal segmented ridges with yellow eyes, red tongue, and white teeth.Exhibition History"Fantastic Creatures of the Venetian Lagoon: Glass 1875-1915," Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA, February 23, 2024 — August 18, 2024.Published ReferencesIllustrated in Sheldon Barr’s Venetian Glass: Confections in Glass,1855-1914, Harry Abrams Inc., New York, 1998, page 40 and 41.
