DescriptionThis work is comprised of a combination of pencil (possibly silverpoint) on a buff paper, with further elaboration done in watercolor and gouache.ProvenanceThis work was acquired from Henry Miller Fine Art, London. Miller noted that he had reframed the painting – he believed the previous frame to be new and date to the 1980s. Miller purchased the work from the Fine and Decorative Art Sale, Shapiro Auctions, NY, on April 8, 2023, where it was Lot 99. Although there was no information regarding its provenance in that sale catalogue, the work was offered for sale, and went unsold, in the LGBTQ+ Art, Material Culture & History sale at Swann Galleries, on August 18, 2022, where it was lot 38. That sale listed the work as coming from a private collection in New York.Exhibition HistoryThe work was previously exhibited at the Arthur U. Newton Galleries, New York, in March – April 6, 1935.
