Label TextYan Hsia Chinese, b. 1932 Two Women Passing by Shop Window, 1974 Oil on canvas Yan Hsia’s urban street scene asks viewers if they can tell a painting from a photograph. In this work, two figures pass a window display in an unknown city. The painting mimics a photograph with a faint, crisp outline of a car reflected in the shop window and the blurred figures in motion. The artist’s ability to execute in such laborious detail is a hallmark of photorealist painters. Gift of Ivan C. Karp 76.58.1
