DescriptionThis is a cibachrome print photograph.Label TextRobert Glenn Ketchum American, b. 1947 Jedediah, After The Rain, ca. 1978 Cibachrome print (photograph), from the portfolio American Photographs In The National Parks Robert Glenn Ketchum sees his photographs as a form of environmentalist activism, but this does not mean he abandons artistic concerns. This lush photograph captures the vibrant nature near Redwood National Park, revealing the beauty of the wilderness when protected from human impact. His close-up view of a thicket, however, is also deliberately abstract. Inspired by the all-over paintings of Al Held and Jackson Pollock, Ketchum removed the horizon from view while nonetheless implying a sense of space. Like the painters he admires, he creates a rhythmic order amid seeming randomness—a romantic metaphor for the nature Ketchum works to conserve. Gift of Jack B.
