Goldsmith Fund 87.113 With his photographs, environmental activist Robert Glenn Ketchum captures images of nature's beauty with respect and compassion while at the same time informing the public of the danger in our assault on her resources. He has also published several books, including The Hudson River and the Highlands (1982). His book The Tongass: Alaska's Vanishing Rain Forest (1987), led to a Congressional vote of protection for that area. This photograph comes from Ketchum's Order from Chaos series. He borrowed this title from Jackson Pollock's statement that he knew that his paintings were finished, when a certain rhythm - an order - arose from the chaos, signaling to him the painting's conclusion.
