DescriptionThis is an oil on canvas painting of a seascape. The water is in the foreground, with cliffs looming in the background. White caps are seen as the water crashes against the cliffs.Label TextRocky Coast (probably Cornwall), ca. 1890s Oil on canvas When donated to the Chrysler Museum of Art in 1994, this painting was a loose sheet of canvas with no frame or stretcher, much like the piece in the case in the center of this gallery. Richards may have created this seascape in England, then rolled it for easy transport back to America. The Museum’s conservation team recently cleaned and restored the picture, adding a new stretcher and an antique period frame. It is now displayed as the artist probably intended.
