DescriptionCommemorative goblet of blown colorless glass. Bucket shape. Solid cylindrical stem. Round, slightly dome foot. Rough pontil. Engraved design of Admiral Nelson's funeral catafalque inscribed at top "Trafalgar" and on cart "Nile" and on reverse "LORD NELSON/JAN==9==1806=".

Inscriptions: on the obverse TRAFALGAR (NILE on the reverse LORD = NELSON (=)ANY=9=1806= Museum Purchase 82.90 This goblet bears the date of the Great British naval hero's burial in St. Paul's Cathedral and illustrates the funeral car modeled on his flagship, the H.M.S. Victory. Nelson was killed in the Battle of Trafalgar, but died victorious. The car's figurehead holds out the laurel wreath of fame and the palm of victory.
