DescriptionThis covered cup is raised above a high foot decorated with a band of beading and a chased band of scrolls and tulips against a stippled ground. The main body of the cup is decorated with a band of chased leaves and with chased swags and ribbons looped over an oval patera. An unidentified coat of arms is engraved under the lip on one side with the motto Fide Et Virtute (Fidelity and Virtue). The spool-shaped cover is decorated with bands of beading at the lip and below the finial, which is urn-shaped and set on chased leaves. The cover has a band of scrolling that matches the base, and an unidentified crest is engraved on it. The cup has two hollow cast handles decorated with beading on each side and joined to the body with leaflike decorations. (Taken from TREASURES FOR THE TABLE catalog, p. 80).
