DescriptionA tinted engraving in near natural colors of a body of water enclosed by jutting land, except where it meets the horizon on which five or six sailing vessels appear. Four people, on a sand spit, meet a small boat having two men and two triangular sails. Two people row out to meet the boat. Many birds fly in shore. It is probably early morning, as the sky is light near the horizon and the shadows of the vessels are thrown forward. Several tiny boats can be seen on the water. A group of four trees at the left stands out from the general foliage. An area of water at the right edge, about .75" high x .50" wide, is treated differently from the remaining portions of the print.Label TextJoshua Shaw American (ca. 1777-1860) John Hill, Engraver British (1770-1850) Lynnhaven Bay, 1820 Engraving on paper, 14 5/8 x 21 7/8 in.
