DescriptionA large glass vessel made with the pâte du verre technique (i.e., glass paste in a mold, kiln-fired) that is shaped like a wide, squat vase with nearly horizontal shoulders, an open mouth, and a short pad foot. The colors are translucent turquoise on the interior, with a thick layer of brick-red glass on the exterior that is covered with relief patterns of incised lines to create triangular patterns. The inner turquoise glass is visible around the mouth and at the point where the shoulders meet the body; at this point, the red glass ends and the turquoise glass peeks out. The upper and lower portions of the vessel appear as if separate and just barely joined together (as though broken or rusted through) with gaps; the vessel is in fact joined, with the upper and lower vessel portions joined by small balls of copper electroplating on the edges of the turquoise glass. A flat copper strip wraps around the interior of the vessel mouth.ProvenanceThe artist | Riley Hawk Galleries (Columbus, OH) | Gwen and Jerome A. Paulson in 2001 | CMA 2024
