Glue marks on back.Label TextGranby Street and the Lorraine Hotel, Norfolk, ca. 1912–13 Gelatin silver print (photograph) on texturized paper Many of Mann’s photographs record the changing world of downtown Norfolk in the early 20th century. Granby Street, seen here looking south across the intersection with Tazewell Street, experienced a construction boom between 1902 and 1907 in anticipation of the Jamestown Exposition. The elegant new seven-story Lorraine Hotel, at the center of this photograph, opened in 1906. It offered 160 rooms, some with private baths, at rates between $2.00 and $3.50 per night.
