DescriptionThis is an oil on canvas painting of a man shown from the torso up. He looks out, from the right, and holds his right hand in his black jacket. Underneath the jacket he has a colorful yellow vest with a star pattern and a white shirt with a bowtie at the neck. His hair and sideburns are brown, and seemed to be styled so the thin curls lay along his face, framing it. The background is a grayish-green color.Label TextPortrait of a Gentleman, ca. 1815 American Oil on canvas Gift of Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch 76.53.10 ProvenanceMrs. Cecil Bloxom, June 28, 1956; Purchased by Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch, 1956; Gift of Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch to The Chrysler Museum at Norfolk, 1976.
