DescriptionThis object is an abstract welded copper and bronze sculpture.Label TextLin Emery American, b. 1928 Adam, 1955 Copper and bronze In Adam, Lin Emery evokes the biblical story of the first humans. Rather than creating a naturalistic portrayal, the artist presents her subject as a semi-abstraction. Interlocking, rough-hewn, geometric shapes evoke a head, torso, and the limbs of a seated male figure. Emery was influenced by Cubism, a style of painting originating in early 20th-century Europe, in which images were fractured and reduced to two-dimensional shapes. In using the modern style, the artist produces a connection between the supposed first man and the idea of the earliest forms of design. Gift of Walter P.
