The Managers, or committee members, are from left to right, seated: Benjamin F. Butler, Thaddeus Stevens, Thomas W. Williams, and John A. Bingham; from left to right, standing: James F. Wilson, George S. Boutwell, and John A. Logan. Benjamin Franklin Butler (1818-1893), Union officer in Civil War, Congressman, Governor of Massachusetts. Thaddeus Stevens (1792-1868), Abolitionist, Congressman, lawyer, advocated harsh Reconstruction measures. John Alexander Logan (1826-1886), Union general in Civil War, U. S. Senator, Congressman.
