DescriptionHot plate from a set consisting of a platter, plate and hot plate (carriage plate). Very heavy wear; grape border "THAB".

Label TextChinese Export Hot Plate, ca. 1790-1800 Porcelain with enamel and gilded decoration Gift of the Winfield Foundation 55.3.46 This double-walled plate, made for the English market, was used to keep food warm. Hot water was poured through one of the openings at the end of the plate and would heat the porcelain up so that food would remain warm even after it was placed on the table. Exhibition History"Reopening of the Joan P. Brock Galleries," Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Va., Opening in March of 2008.
