DescriptionThe form of this vase was inspired by ancint water jugs. The vase is made of colorless Soffiato glass, with an application of black glass on the rim of the neck as well as the dides of the two handles. The body of the jug is round, with a long neck, and two handles formed by fusing four thick lengths of glass and then squaring off the handles to the body of the jug. The form of the jug, as well as the "celery-rib" handles derive from ancient roman glass. The iridized surface, here created by acid-fuming hot-at-the-furnace, suggests the weathering that occurs when glass is long-burried.Label TextDesigned by Napoleone Martinuzzi Italian (1892-1977) for Zecchin & Martinuzzi Vetri Artistici e Mosaici, Venice, Italy Two-Handled Jug, ca. 1930s Blown glass with hot applications Gift of Sheri Sandler in memory of Sam and Reba Sandler 97.42.78 The form of this jug and its "celery-rib" handles derive from ancient Roman glass.
