DescriptionThis is a gelatin silver print.Label TextR. E. BOOTHER POLISHES THE BELL OF CLASS K LOCOMOTIVE 104 AT THE BRISTOL ROUNDHOUSE Bristol, Virginia, 1955 L2004.11.11 It's not surprising that there are many photographs of Class K locomotive 104 in Winston Link's N&W collection. It was a locomotive that Link liked, and Bristol, Virginia was only about 15 miles southwest of Abingdon, Virginia. After a day photographing on the Abingdon Branch, Link would routinely come down to Bristol, stopping for dinner on the way, then spend some time at the Bristol roundhouse making photos or recordings. A photo like this would have been easy for Link to set up. It required only two flashbulbs, although he would have needed to find an elevated platform so that he could be on center with the locomotive's headlight. Here, engine cleaner R. E. Boother takes pride in making sure the locomotive's bell is well-polished. Edited By: DS Approved By: MHM Approval Date: 07/25/2005Exhibition History"Norfolk and Western Railway Photographs by O.
