Brady Studio American (1823-1896) Flag Officer, Andrew Hull Foote, (1806-1863) Salted paper print with ink wash 98.32.53 During the Civil War, Rear Admiral Foote commanded Union Naval operations on the upper Mississippi River. He led his flotilla of gunboats to victories at Island No. 10, Fort Henry and Fort Donelson. He was largely responsible for ending the navy's alcohol ration in 1862.
