DescriptionOne in a collection of four black and white prints depicting settlers landing and then being massarcred by Native Americans. A woodcut illustration, "The Chickahominees Making an Alliance with the English in 1606-1607," having "Portrait of Capit Argal" labeled. This print, out of an Albelin issue having German headings and texts, is from a block originally made for "Hamor's Present State" and " John Smith's True Description" (Latin edition). There is a ship in the background on a river. Men come ashore and trade with Indians. Argal and Indians talk seated on a mat in foreground and deer and Indian with fowl appear in right corner forground. This image appeared on page 545. Handmade paper with myriad fine particles throughout.
