Label TextDaniel Rozin American, b. Jerusalem, 1961 Mirror No. 10 (Sketch Mirror), 2009 Custom software, computer, video camera, screen Daniel Rozin’s Mirror No. 10 (Sketch Mirror) turns the notion of self-portraiture on its head by reflecting the image of the viewer in front of the work. The screen mimics the intuitive decision-making process that an artist follows while making a portrait sketch. A video camera captures the viewer’s likeness, and an internal computer then evaluates the image, looking for the most “interesting” and distinctive details. These are drawn onto the screen using short, curved strokes. The program works like a caricaturist, concentrating on and simplifying such features as the viewer’s profile, smile, eyes, wrinkles, and hairstyle. Any slight movement by the viewer initiates the recreation of the sketch to incorporate the changed details. Give it a try and get yourself sketched! Museum purchase in memory of Alice R. and Sol B.
