Label TextJosepha Gasch-Muche German (b. 1944) 7.3.2011, 2011 Glass mounted on wood Museum purchase 2011.7 In 7.3.2011, Josepha Gasch-Muche assembled broken shards of Liquid Crystal Display glass, used to make modern television, computer, and smart phone screens, into a reflective circular form. Her work explores the influence of light on the mind and spirit, and her recycling transforms everyday industrial material into an emotional experience. In this work, the focus is the psychological impact of being both attracted and repelled by the glass. It is designed both to unsettle and seduce. The attraction becomes dangerous, however, if you step too close to the jagged glass. Additionally, her work connects visitors to the experimentation, and sometimes breakage, occurring daily in the Museum’s new Glass Studio.ProvenanceArtist; Heller Gallery, New York; purchased by the Chrysler Museum of ArtExhibition History"Mutable Materiality," Heller Gallery, New York, October 14 – December 24, 2011.
