Label TextBuilder Levy American, born 1942 far left Harlem Peace March, New York City, 1967 Platinum print (photograph) on rag paper, printed 2014 Annell Ponder, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Funeral, Atlanta, Georgia, 1968 Platinum print (photograph) on rag paper, printed 2014 In these photographs, Builder Levy depicts the raw emotions of the people taking an active part in anti-war and civil rights demonstrations in the late 1960s. While many photojournalists focused on street protests and marches, Levy chose to portray individual participants, highlighting their deeply personal and often poignant emotional involvement in these public events. Levy’s photographs remind us of the complex feelings and individual experiences that motivate social or political change.
