DescriptionThis gelatin silver print depicts the artist Georgia O'Keeffe standing in the doorway of her home in Abiquiu, New Mexico.Label TextDon Worth American, 1924–2009 Georgia O'Keeffe, New Mexico, 1958 Gelatin silver print (photograph) In this image, photographer Don Worth depicts artist Georgia O’Keeffe standing in the doorway of her Abiquiú, New Mexico, home. The inclusion of the Butterfly Chair without its sling in the foreground may seem unusual, but it achieves the artists’ shared desire to project O’Keeffe as a modern creative. Here, O’Keeffe’s cool expression and self-presentation in profile echoes the bent steel’s bold geometry. Known for cultivating an image of authority, power, and grace, the photograph is a reminder that appearances were important for O’Keeffe and that art was never so separate from life.
