A girl stands in front of a mural, caught up in its religious imagery. Garduño's photographs concentrate on the landscapes and people of Central and South America. She examines the continuing presence of indigenous history as it intersects with contemporary culture. Exploring the legacy of colonialism and the surreal qualities of everyday life, Garduño collapses long spans of time into single images. She addresses universal experiences like life and death, work and play, religious and indigenous ceremony, and sacred and profane desire.
