Label TextBOTTLE (FOR ROSE-WATER?) Persia Probably 9th-10th Century A.D. Blown glass, originally colorless; cut. Museum Purchase 66.34.3 The high relief, cut geometric decoration that had characterized work in glass and rock crystal in Sassanian Persia contuned after the Arab invasion of the 7th century, and was absorbed by Islamic culture. Bottles in this form must have been extremely popular, because they occur in both plain blown and elaboratley decorated glass, and in ceramics and metal.Published ReferencesThe Toledo Museum, _Art in Glass_, pg. 39, "Iran 8-10th century". _Corning Journal of Glass Studies_, IX, 1967, pg. 136, No. 22.
