DescriptionCarved mahogany sofa. Pine frame, yellow upholstery. Four carved dolphin legs. Back has a carved eagle on either side of the central reserve with two bolsters. Originally, it had three medial braces. One replaced. Braces were fitted into grooves/slots cut into the frame. Similar pieces in the Metropolitan Museum (65.58) and the White House. Similar to the one in the Calhoun Museum, Clemson, S.C.
