DescriptionThis is a clock made with brass and silvered-bronze, that is gilt-lacquered and set with semi-precious stones and an enamel face. It incorporates Western and exotic (Moorish) motifs to create its' original design. Also, other elements allude to the classical world through mythical marine motifs: two hippocamps (or sea horses), a scallop shell, and branches of coral decorate the base, while a winged merman surmounts the top.ProvenanceOwned by one family, 1871-19?; purchased by H.
