Label TextLynnhaven Hotel, Norfolk, ca. 1912 Gelatin silver print (photograph) on texturized paper The Lynnhaven Hotel at 339–343 Granby Street opened in 1907, just in time for the Jamestown Exposition. Later known as the James Madison Hotel, it was one of Norfolk’s first hotels to have indoor plumbing and an elevator. Its architect was John Kevan Peebles (1866–1934), who contributed to the design of many fine buildings in downtown Norfolk and Ghent. Peebles was a partner in the firm that created the original building for the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences, which later became the Chrysler Museum of Art.
