Although Reyner remained one of the most prosperous men in Newport News during the Depression, his faith motivated him to run a charity that assisted local families. Here, photographer John Vachon captured Reyner dressed in a fine Brooks Brothers suit and sitting between men who devour a meal at the Salvation Army.
